Job Description

Senior Member Services Specialist
Location: San Jose, CA (Hybrid)
Compensation: $34.46/hour + exceptional benefits

Make a real difference in people’s health and lives — in a role that blends community connection, benefits expertise, and member advocacy.

We’re looking for a bilingual (Spanish/English) Senior Member Services Specialist who can be the welcoming face and trusted guide for our diverse participant community. You’ll help Union members understand and use their benefits effectively, navigate claims and eligibility, and connect them with programs that improve health outcomes.

This is not your typical call center job — it’s a chance to work directly with people, educate them, and solve problems in meaningful ways.

Why You’ll Love This Role

  • Hybrid schedule: Alternate weekly between working onsite in San Jose and from home.

  • Travel with purpose: Visit our Monterey, CA office twice a month (Thursdays) — travel mileage/gas  reimbursed.

  • Impactful work: Help members get the best value from their healthcare benefits while improving their well-being.

  • Bilingual advantage: Use your Spanish/English fluency to bridge communication and cultural gaps.

What You’ll Do

  • Serve as the main point of contact for members, unions, employers, healthcare providers, and vendors.

  • Explain benefits, eligibility, and healthcare plan details in person, over the phone, and at worksites.

  • Host and attend enrollment events; guide members through enrollment processes.

  • Provide proactive health education presentations and one-on-one consultations.

  • Handle walk-in and phone inquiries; investigate issues and recommend improvements.

  • Manage escalated member/provider concerns with professionalism and empathy.

  • Keep current on all benefit plans, policies, and systems to deliver accurate, timely information.

  • Train other Member Services team members on advanced processes.

  • Participate in special projects and outreach programs to increase engagement.

  • Travel outside normal hours/locations when needed to reach participants.

What You’ll Bring

  • 2–3 years’ experience in healthcare, insurance, union services, or community engagement.

  • Associate’s degree in Business, Healthcare Administration, or equivalent experience.

  • Fluency in Spanish (required).

  • Strong customer service skills — call center experience a plus.

  • Comfort working with diverse communities.

  • Ability to travel between San Jose and Monterey (2 Thursday per month). While there is local travel (mileage/gas  reimbursed), many candidates enjoy the variety and direct engagement it provides compared to a standard call center setting.

Schedule & Compensation

  • Monday–Friday | 37.5 hours/week | 7.5 hours/day.

  • Hourly rate: $34.46

Outstanding Union-level Benefits

  • Medical, Dental, Vision coverage.

  • Generous Paid Time Off & Paid Holidays.

  • BOTH Pension + 401(k).

  • Short- & Long-term Disability, Life & AD&D insurance.

  • Flexible Spending Accounts (healthcare & dependent care).

  • Commuter Transit benefits.

  • Tuition Assistance.

  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP).

While the role includes phone-based member support, you’ll also have the chance to:

  • Work directly with members in the field, hosting and attending enrollment events and presentations.
  • Be the “face” of the organization, building real connections and helping people get the most from their healthcare benefits.
  • Join a mission-driven organization that values community impact and personal service.
  •
  • Variety in your week — a blend of in-office, phone, and in-person outreach.
  • The ability to positively impact people’s lives by guiding them through their healthcare benefits.

If this sounds like the type of work where you could see yourself making a difference, and you’re ready to put your people skills, problem-solving ability, and healthcare or insurance knowledge to work in a role where you can truly make a difference — we want to hear from you!
