Scope of Position
The department of Outreach Laboratory Services is responsible for the support of the Outreach Medical services of The Ohio State University Medical Center. This encompasses Phlebotomy, laboratory testing, quality control and maintenance, printing and distribution of patient clinical data and forms, taking billing questions from patients and insurance companies. The Outreach Laboratory Services Division is presently a 10-hour operation, 5 days a week, Monday thru Friday. Sites of operation include Stoneridge Medical Center and Martha Morehouse Medical Plaza.
The position is responsible for delivering quality routine laboratory testing to OSUMC patients and clients as well as to the community. It requires effective interactions with staff and clients.
Position Summary
The technician will be proficient with the laboratory information system and processing samples, answering phones and filing. The technician will be required to maintain and troubleshoot all laboratory needs related to Mysis, Atlas web based order entry software, E-Results and Customer service needs. Specific duties to include; ordering and processing patient specimens using prescribed Mysis, Atlas methodology and instrumentation and assisting with preparation of specimens for routine and STAT orders for chemistry, hematology, and coagulation analysis on blood, urine and other body fluids. Assist Medical Technologists in other aspects of laboratory functions to include Quality Control, Quality Assurance and instrument maintenance. Participate in Mysis and Atlas continuing education activities scheduled by the laboratory and assist with training of new employees and students.
Minimum Qualifications
High School diploma or GED. Certification or vocational training may be required. Associate degree in relevant field may be preferred. 1 year of relevant experience required. 4-6 years of relevant experience preferred.
